About „assemblies“:

In her currant work Ruth Hommelsheim practises a form of archeology with representational manifestations of family and concentrates hereby on group photographs of different periods of time. Painting over the background in the photographs allows for “exposure” of the groups. Levelling the surroundings permits the group as a unit and the relations of the individuals to take centre stage.

For the edition the artist chose three pictures which are now on offer as smaller prints. The original works are also available.

Bettina Lockemann deals with the relation of undocumented (»illegal«) migrants to the city and the assumption of becoming invisible which coins their lives. The danger of being discovered lurks everywhere. The image of the urban environment is altered. Constantly scanned for signals and risks, it loses its sense of being home – which it is to many »legals«. But the city also provides an element of security. Undocumented migrants are not immediately obvious among the many other foreigners. It is here that »illegals« hope most to find support, this is where they can make use of networks.

Bettina Lockemann photographed »EP/2006/K.« on invitation of the European Parliament and the German Goethe-Institute within the precincts of the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium in 2006. The photo project is about the impenetrability and aloofness of bureaucratic rooms and processes which is picked up in the configuration of the edition as envelope folder with rubber-stamped title.
